Bruce Bristow | Chief Finance Officer
Bruce a qualified Chartered Accountant has gained extensive experience in financial management, taxation, regulation and general management in three jurisdictions (South Africa, United Kingdom and Switzerland). He has had exposure to both large and small businesses, including the highly regulated financial services industry in the UK, where he held key regulatory / controlled functions.
Bruce’s career began in 1990 with KPMG South Africa, where he over a 10 year period gained significant business exposed through audit, tax and consulting assignments. The last two years of this was spent in the London office, where he worked specifically on the banks and financial services sector. He then joined a financial services group as Group Financial Controller, based in Switzerland, and which was regarded as a leading niche brokerage business including trading, assets swaps, emerging market derivatives (mainly interest rate swaps) and equity derivatives.
Since 2006 Bruce has been with AHV Associates LLP as a Corporate Finance Associate and Business consultant, a boutique advising on a wide range of mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructures and disposals.
Duane de Necker | Partner
Duane began his career with ABSA Bank, South Africa and subsequently worked in London, gaining exposure in financial project management. Upon returning to South Africa, he was part of a few new ventures before entering the Private Equity Sector.
He is a strong believer in detailed financial analysis and due diligence throughout various aspects of companies, projects and transactions thus eliminating the element of surprise, adding value to shareholders and investors.
His expertise covers the identification, development and execution of each individual innovative solution to clients. He is a perfectionist in his work ethic and operates in excellence. He has the ability to think “Big Picture”, yet has the skillset to focus on detail in achieving the ultimate goal. Duane holds a ND in Financial Information Systems from Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University.
Duane is an active sportsman, having successfully completed IRONMAN South Africa.
Warren Thompson | Managing Partner
Warren is an accountant with more than 20 years’ experience in business operations and executive management, 7 years of which were in professional accounting and auditing. Four months after leaving Deloitte and Touché in 1995 he was part of a team that successfully listed MotoLink Limited on the JSE and which reverse merged with privately owned transport giant Super Rent in 1997.
A successful 15 year career during which time he lead a pioneering initiative to outsource transport financial leasing in the government sector in South Africa and held managing director positions across the Group typical of such diversified industrial major. In 2005 Warren became a Group Exco member and understudy to the Group CEO and was fortunate to hold a very strategic role which included a Group wide plan to partner with China Inc.
Warren’s experience, knowledge and business associations within the Africa China landscape gave him a unique understanding (even interviewed by CCTV 9 – Dialogue show) and core competency on structuring investment opportunities underpinned by the Grand China-Africa strategy. Recognizing that opportunity he co-founded African Investment Partners in 2009, and continued to develop that passion with some of China’s investment elite. Warren’s extensive experience underpins his passion for strategy operationalization and this therefore creates his natural skill for unlocking value through successful implementation of mergers and acquisitions and private equity.
John Levey | Partner
John holds a Baccalaureus in Law (LLB) degree from the University of Stellenbosch. He was admitted and authorized to practice as an advocate of the High Court of South Africa since 1999.
He began his career during his LLB studies as an independent financial and legal advisor in private wealth and estate planning to Old Mutual. John acted as trustee and advisor to trustees for numerous high net worth Old Mutual Clients and has drafted several family and business orientated trust deeds for same. He was a co-founder of a number of property development, finance, leasing and marketing companies.
John was instrumental in the interpretation and implementation of various South African tax legislation through which innovative solutions were structured and value was added for both the property developer and the property investor. He has been invited and asked to speak and lecture on this topic by Nedbank, ABSA, Standard Bank and various other institutions and received a businessman award from Nedbank for his contribution towards residential property sales.
During 2006 John travelled extensively throughout South Africa together with Crown Ministries assisting them with the training and equipping of business leaders.
In the last 5 years John has gained extensive experience in innovative structuring and the setting in place of innovative structured finance solutions, inter alia many aspects of Corporate Finance.
His daily business activities deliver solutions within the area of advisory services to various national and international businesses.
Fanus Engelbrecht | Partner
Fanus studied Human Science Movement at the University of Pretoria. He is an operational workhorse, ex-professional rugby player and keen sports enthusiast and educationalist. Fanus had involvement in business and sport management for the past 10 years.
Was the Human Resources Manager for a chain of health Clinics and later Managing Director of various companies (Core Health, High Performance Centre for the University of Pretoria, Sportsworld and other sports academies), his managerial acumen/prowess has developed as a consequence of hands on experience. As the Managing Director he has been instrumental in developing the various businesses.
Fanus now focuses on formulating functional and innovative business models for sport, corporate and social responsibility progams and initiatives. Fanus assists corporates and private platforms with their development and implementation phases, taking the most recent and up to date methodologies and processes in mind to structure the individual solution required.
